Last spring I was having a really horrific time sleeping. It was truly awful. I was having major spinning thoughts at night, telling myself so many horrible stories and future tripping so many worst-case scenarios. I have pretty severe PTSD around consecutive nights of no sleep because of the two nervous breakdowns I have had in my life and it started coinciding with no sleep. Thankfully I am sleeping pretty well right now. Every morning when I wake up after getting rest I feel SO GRATEFUL! Not sleeping truly is hell and if you are in that space right now or have been there, I am truly so sorry.
It tears me up even thinking about it. It is one of the most comforting tender things that Eric started doing for me that is truly re-parenting my little girl self that felt SO scared at night as a kid. I slept in my brother's room until he graduated because I was always so terrified. I am so touched that not only do we get to re-parent ourselves but we also get to play these magical roles with our loved ones to help re-parent their little selves. The level of attunement and safety I feel with Eric has been such a gift to my inner child and nervous system. He does that in so many ways like how he is on my stardust app that tracks my cycle. On the first and second day of my period, he always comes home with my favorite chocolate and cooks for me while I rest and do nothing! He honors all the different seasons of my cycle and it makes me feel so cared for.
There is something incredible about being able to do this for the people we love and being able to receive it. Learning to let myself really receive without feeling shame, guilt or the need to immediately reciprocate has been so powerful for me and my inner child in this relationship. I truly believe that this is part of the magic of a relationship. They bring up and mirror all of our deepest wounds and they get to be the place where so much healing and re-programming happens.
I would love to hear about your experiences with how you got to re-parent in a relationship and how you have supported your partner's inner child's healing.
I am sending so much love to you and all your parts.
Ruthie
Thank you for sharing this! I love that this is happening for you and I’m happy to say I’ve had moments of this in my relationship as well. My husband has seen how much I struggle to get up and go to work sometimes. This is a part of my highly sensitive self that I struggle to make peace with but he saw this and suggested that we set aside some money for me to be able to take extra days off work outside of my allotted pto without feeling like I am burdening our finances. How healing it is for him to care for this part of me that feels so broken❤️
I have a very loving and caring husband. I am very thankful for our close relationship. Second marriage for both of us but we feel very compatible and had a very strong connection initially in the way that we felt just holding each other. But it took a lot of work besides this to become a couple. We are both grateful that we found each other and made it work. Sorry for the preface here… My love has been there for me in the worst of times and believed in my strength. When I was at my worst I would clutch his chest and he would stroke me to sleep. I was utterly scared and he’d did not turn away. I am very maternal in all ways. I was not able to have a child. I say to husband I now have a big baby—thank you for being my big baby and can love and care for… He is not afraid to be vulnerable. That’s all for now.
